Tim Robinson, Esq., President, Regulatory Law Group, PLLC and General Counsel, MMIS, Inc. will be presenting recent survey results at the Second Annual West Coast Tracking State Laws and Aggregate Spend Conference to be held April 13-14, 2011, in San Diego, CA. The conference is presented by The Center for Business Intelligence (CBI), a subsidiary of Advanstar Communications Inc.
The first survey Mr. Robinson will present identifies life sciences industry trends and best practices in aggregate spend tracking and reporting. The second measures the awareness and understanding of Health Care Providers (HCPs) vis-à-vis the industry's reporting requirements and the potential impact on their practices.
Over the last several years, various organizations and regulatory authorities have taken actions to set limits on the relationships between physicians and the life sciences industry. These include the adoption of policies to eliminate or limit access of pharmaceutical sales representatives to teaching hospitals; a ban on physicians receiving food or free samples; and the prohibition of physicians from participating in promotional speakers bureaus.
More significantly, the Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires comprehensive tracking and reporting of promotional expenditures by life sciences companies on physicians and teaching hospitals starting in 2012. As a result, Aggregate Spend Reporting has become an increasing challenge for the life sciences industry.
At the conference, Mr. Robinson will present and discuss the results of the two surveys, which were commissioned by MMIS, Inc., providers of MediSpend,® an aggregate spend tracking and reporting solution.
Discussion points and analysis will include the ways organizations address the differing standards; how aggregate spend data can be used in further business analysis; the extent to which HCPs are aware of the tracking and reporting requirements under state and federal law; what effect HCPs believe greater transparency will have on healthcare delivery; and the extent to which HCP employers can control a providers’ outside activities with industry.
The Second Annual West Coast Tracking State Laws and Aggregate Spend Conference will take place at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, San Diego, CA, April 13-14. It is a forum for senior-level executives at biotech, medical device or pharmaceutical companies; lawyers and consultants specializing in regulatory compliance; and technology providers with aggregate spend solutions or rules interfaces.
