Last Friday, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced modifications to previously provided matching algorithms requiring manufacturers to now match additional data elements in the NPPES or PECOS data sets. As a result of the CMS modifications to the matching algorithms, all manufacturers are experiencing the removal of previously submitted records from the CMS portal.
So what does this mean for you? It means that changing the algorithm may have caused some of your submitted data to be removed. According to CMS, removed records will not be included in the initial public release of data on September 30th. Instead, removed records will be returned to manufacturers for further remediation consistent with the revised requirements.
What's next? CMS has announced it will send each manufacturer a file of all removed transactions within the next 2 weeks. Once you receive the file, please notify our support team so that we can work with you to resolve the issues and prepare for a subsequent submission. In the meantime, we have submitted a list of questions to CMS asking for detailed clarification and our technology team is working to enhance the MediSpend reporting engine and MediSpend Validate to incorporate the changes. Once we receive the necessary information, we will be able to document the new requirements and finalize a solution design. You can be confident we will keep you updated on any new information we receive and will supply a timeline as to when the modifications will be completed.
